Steve in His Natural Habitat

This photo, titled Steve in His Natural Habitat, was taken December 30, 2018 through the shop window when we were located on the northwest corner of Manchester and Sutton in Maplewood. Even though it looks like Steve was completely absorbed in his work - and he was - he also, at the very same time could and would get up at a moments notice. When I look at this photo, I see him exactly as he was which is that he was always ready to be on the move to do something else or something more. He rarely appeared settled in. Even when waking from sleep he got up abruptly and began moving. Quickly. I remember when we first met and then traveled together (after only 3 dates) he walked so fast that I felt like I had to run to keep up with him. Steve was always on the move. Always going towards something. But here in this moment, he appears settled.
